Suddenly realized that the VPS I just bought and the one shutting down tomorrow are in the same data center

What ds told me:

traceroute to 156.238.224.xxx:
1 10.0.23.1 0.158 ms ← Local gateway (private IP)
2 186.241.68.1 5.770 ms ← Gateway of the data center where 186 is located
3 10.250.1.2 0.407 ms ← Private IP
4 162.219.85.149 0.609 ms ← The only public hop
6 192.168.220.237 0.611 ms ← Private IP
9 156.238.224.xxx 0.855 ms ← Source machine, 0.855 ms throughout

Then let’s go for a run together.

:xhj003:No big deal—I’ve even bought a $2-per-year NAT VPS that turned out to be on the same IP range and physical host as another provider’s $24-per-year VPS. The last octets were 127 and 129.

That’s incredible!

Lucky you!

So, are you surprised? Did you see that coming?

That’s normal.
There are too many resellers and providers using the same data centers these days,
especially among the various Chinese cloud providers—I’ve never seen one that operates entirely on its own.
