What should I do about high latency on my Minecraft server?

I set up an MC server in Hong Kong, and the route goes through CN2. The ping is 60 ms, but when I join the game in Minecraft, it shoots up to 300–600 ms. What should I do?

QoS packet loss, normal enough—unless you’re on CN2 the entire way and use China Telecom broadband.

That’s normally only half-route CN2 because it’s China Mobile. Even when it goes through CN2, there will still be cross-network QoS.

Is it Bedrock Edition or Java?

Bedrock Edition uses UDP, and the carrier’s QoS may be stricter than Java’s TCP.

If it’s Java, enabling BBR might help.

Is this latency on the CN2 route halfway through abnormal? If it has to cross networks, we’ll also have to deal with a whole extra round of cross-network QoS…

java

Posted.

You can try enabling BBR on the server first.

It’s open.

Then I can only find another server with a good network route to use as a relay.

Or heavily modify the kernel to send multiple packets at once, hoping at least one gets through, trading bandwidth for latency

Normal

Hosting an MC server overseas—are you even human?

What’s wrong with the latency being 60–100 now?

Hi, packets may be lost.

By the way, how do you test for packet loss?

Capture it on the server
