I. Before the Call Connects (00:00–01:23)
00:00 Jensen Huang
Oh, no.
00:04 Chamath Palihapitiya
This wasn’t planned, but we know who it is.
00:06 Jensen Huang
Oh, no. Wait. Mr. President. [Laughter] Okay, sir. I have to tell you something—as you called, I was onstage with my good friends. I’m onstage with my good friends. [Laughter] Sacks is here, yes, you know, everybody’s here. Jason is here too.
00:36 Jensen Huang
Chamath is here. David is here. [Laughter] Yes. I’m sitting in front of several thousand people, and we were talking—and then we realized we weren’t talking about you. [Laughter] Well played, sir.
00:50 Jensen Huang
Well played. You can see through everything—I mean, there’s a lot to untangle here, and you see through all of it. We really appreciate it.
01:01 Jason Calacanis
[Quietly] Say hi to him for me. [Laughter]
01:02 David Sacks
Do you want to say hi to him, on behalf of the audience?
01:07 Jensen Huang
Jason—Jason wants to get you on the microphone.
01:09 Chamath
Even Jason wants to.
01:10 Jason Calacanis
Put it on speaker. Speaker mode. [Audience chants: Speaker]
01:12 Jensen Huang
How do we get the President on speaker?
01:15 Chamath
Put it on speaker.
01:15 David Sacks
Should we put it on speaker?
01:17 Jason Calacanis
Speaker.
01:17 Chamath
Yes.
01:18 Jason Calacanis
Point it at the microphone.
01:19 Staff member
Here, let’s get a microphone.
01:19 Jensen Huang
Sir, please wait a moment.
01:20 Chamath
Sir, please wait—we’re getting a microphone.
01:22 Jensen Huang
Mr. President?
II. The Conversation (01:23–05:27)
01:23 Donald Trump
Yes, it’s me.
01:24 Jensen Huang
You’re now speaking to the whole world.
01:26 Donald Trump
You see, that’s the most amazing thing about life—Jensen can build the most complicated chips in the world, chips that nobody can replicate within ten years. But he can’t figure out how to put me on speaker. [Laughter] That’s the thing. We have to remember that.
01:41 Chamath
He’s roasting you.
01:42 Donald Trump
So, now when it comes to AI, it’s almost a conspiracy. China is the happiest of all, China is very happy. I could even say that many states in this country are happy too—places that otherwise wouldn’t get anything are benefiting because a whole lot of people who want to build are coming in.
02:01 Donald Trump
But suddenly we see them building in Finland. Google wants to build a big one in Finland, and I’m very unhappy about that because they can’t get permits in the United States. I’ll tell you, the whole thing is a scam. Data centers are a good thing. They make people wealthy, they make states wealthy, and they’re the oil of the next 20 or 25 years.
02:19 Donald Trump
It’s bigger than the internet, and AI is even bigger—much bigger. And these people are actually undermining those who don’t want this to happen. Those people may be doing it for political reasons, or they may be China. We’re not going to let that happen. It’s a scam.
02:38 Jensen Huang
You’re right. We’re not going to let that happen, sir.
02:40 Donald Trump
That’s right, we’re not going to let it happen. Robots are not going to rule the world. That’s not going to happen. You know, my uncle was—probably one of the best in history, frankly—a professor at MIT. He taught for 41 or 42 years and was recognized as one of the smartest people.
03:00 Donald Trump
He was there for 41 years, rose to the very top, and did a lot of things.
03:09 Donald Trump
Jensen knows all about it. So if you believe in genetics, I guess I have a bit of a genetic advantage—I do believe in it. [Laughter] I have that gene.
03:19 Jensen Huang
That explains why you understand AI so well.
03:22 Donald Trump
Robots are not going to take over our country. I understand AI, and I also have common sense about AI. Robots are not going to take over, AI is not going to take over the rest of the world. The whole thing is a scam. That being said, we have to be a little careful and act prudently.
03:42 Donald Trump
But that doesn’t mean we should shut down an industry. We can’t develop it while thinking about how to destroy it ten years from now. So I’m completely supportive of you. I didn’t even know what you thought—I assumed you thought the same way I did.
03:53 Jensen Huang
Yes, sir.
03:54 Donald Trump
And—if we’re going to lead—I have a saying: whoever wins AI wins everything. That’s how big it is, bigger than the internet. Whoever wins AI wins. We can’t let that happen, and a very important part of it includes data centers. Some communities were in decline, but now that they have data centers, they’ve become wealthy communities.
04:13 Jensen Huang
Right.
04:14 Donald Trump
Very wealthy communities. That’s the plan—
04:15 Jensen Huang
We will make sure—we will make sure that everyone, everyone, wins the AI race in America. Every industry—
04:23 Donald Trump
Good.
04:23 Jensen Huang
—every company, every state, every person.
04:25 Donald Trump
Good. I feel very strongly about this, and I have the ability to do something about it. We’re not going to let those things happen. I had no idea who would be here at this event or who I was even talking to. [Laughter] But I will—
04:37 Jensen Huang
Did you hear that? Did you hear that? Several thousand people are applauding you.
04:42 Donald Trump
I know. All I know is that if you’re there, you’d better listen to Jensen. He’s doing an incredible job, and David is doing an incredible job too. Good luck to everybody. We’re looking toward the future. This country has never been better. Twenty trillion dollars in investment is flowing into the United States, while Biden got less than one trillion during those four years. [Laughter]
05:10 Donald Trump
That’s within one year. This country truly has never seen anything like it, and we’re going to keep it that way.
05:18 Donald Trump
Thank you all very much.
05:20 Jensen Huang
Thank you, Mr. President.
05:20 Chamath
Thank you, Mr. President.
05:20 Donald Trump
Thank you, Jensen. Thank you, everybody.
05:20 Jensen Huang
Okay, I’ll call you back later. Thank you, Mr. President. Thank you.
05:25 Donald Trump
Okay. Goodbye.
