The most valuable in the world
Does the boat come down using the straight elevator?
Use water to raise and lower it.

A little shocking
Is this the Three Gorges? Hmm, I haven’t been there yet.
First, it truly lives up to its reputation.
Photo content and corresponding passages from “The Three Gorges”: Analysis of the imagery
Photo 1, Photo 2 (looking upward from inside a ship lock, with towering concrete walls on both sides and only a narrow strip of sky visible): “Layer upon layer of mountains and peaks conceal the sky and block out the sun.” “Unless it is noon or midnight, the sun and moon cannot be seen.” The immense, straight, steep walls on both sides resemble the “layer upon layer of mountains and peaks” described in the classical text, completely blocking the view. Only at noon or midnight can one see the sky and sunlight through the slit above, creating an intense sense of visual oppression.
Photo 4 (continuous mountain ranges on both banks of the Three Gorges, shrouded in mist, with a broad river): “The mountains stretch continuously along both banks, with scarcely a break.” The mountains on both banks of the Yangtze rise and fall continuously, with almost no visible interruption, perfectly matching the classic description of the Three Gorges’ terrain in the ancient text.
Photo 4 (the river is calm and broad, with boats sailing across it): “Even riding a galloping horse or driving with the wind would not be as fast.” (Creating a contrast between past and present.) The ancient text describes the summer floodwaters as so swift that even riding a horse or harnessing the wind could not match the speed of a boat. Today, after the Three Gorges Reservoir was filled, the river has become broad and calm, allowing boats to travel safely and slowly—a stark contrast to the turbulent waters of the past.
Photo 3, Photo 4 (a modern dam, ship locks, national flags, and towns): “There are often high apes giving long, mournful cries, their calls echoing with a desolate strangeness.” “The Three Gorges of Badong stretch through the Wu Gorge; after three cries of the apes, tears stain one’s robes.” (Reflecting the changes of the times.) In the ancient text, the Three Gorges are desolate and sorrowful, and the apes’ plaintive cries bring people to tears. The photos, however, show modern water-control infrastructure, fluttering national flags, and prosperous towns. The desolation of the past has been completely replaced by today’s magnificent engineering achievements and peaceful life.
A lot of fun
It’s scary just looking at it ![]()
