Synopsis
Shen Jialan, the eldest granddaughter of Grand Academician Shen, is betrothed to Lin Jinqi, the eldest grandson of the Lin family, whose patriarch is the Minister of Personnel. However, the political climate suddenly shifts, and Grand Academician Shen is convicted of treason, leading to the destruction of the entire Shen family. To protect themselves, the Lin family breaks off the engagement with the Shens and instead arranges a marriage alliance with the Zhao family, a newly influential clan favored by the emperor. Xu Wanquan and his wife, servants of the Lin family whom Jialan’s mother, Madam Cui, once supported, substitute their daughter Xu Lanxiang, who has just died of illness, for Jialan. From then on, Jialan assumes Xu Lanxiang’s identity and becomes a third-rank maid in the Lin household. In her difficult circumstances, Lanxiang refuses to bow to fate. She continually strives to build a happy life for herself and her family, resisting all injustice and oppression. In the end, through her kindness and intelligence, Lanxiang breaks through the constraints of her social status, wins Lin Jinqi’s affection, and earns the trust and respect of everyone in the Lin household. She becomes the head of the Lin family, takes her destiny firmly into her own hands, and clears the Shen family’s name and obtains justice for them.
