To make use of idle servers, and also as a way to learn and pass the time. I’m also learning on the fly, solving everything with AI. This server comes with a built-in database, so installation is relatively easy; the VPS method is a bit more troublesome—ask AI, look for tutorials, or consult experts. Here I only share the image installation package, which includes over 100 plugins, all downloaded from GitHub and Flarum. The zip is about 60 MB; check its safety yourself. Do not enable unwanted plugins or uninstall them via commands—it’s entirely up to you. It’s sufficient for a personal blog, and also works for a forum. Installing too many plugins may cause incompatibilities and bugs, leading to pages not loading, requiring you to pause or uninstall plugins via commands. The plugins gather the wisdom of dozens to over a hundred developers. Thanks to the platform for their hard work! If you have an idle server and want to tinker, give it a try. Only by learning and tinkering can you move forward.

Common Commands

Official Installation Requirements

  • Before installing Flarum, be sure to check that your server meets the requirements.

  • To run Flarum you need: Apache (with mod_rewrite enabled) or Nginx

  • PHP 7.3+ with the following extensions: curl, dom, fileinfo, gd, json, mbstring, openssl, pdo_mysql, tokenizer, zip

  • MySQL 5.6+/8.0.23+ or MariaDB 10.0.5+

My Installation Parameters, For Reference Only

  • Flarum image version: 1.8.11

  • PHP: 8.2.29

  • MySQL: 10.6.23-MariaD

  • First create a database name; username; password, and record them for later use. Upload the zip package and extract it to the root directory.

  • In the browser go to http(s)://yourdomain:public to start, enter the database information to install. Afterwards set public as the root directory; other operations can be solved by AI.

  • Installation Example

  • Forum Title: mybbs <choose any name>

  • MySQL Host: localhost <default>

  • MySQL Database: flarum <your database name>

  • MySQL Username: root <your database username>

  • Table Prefix: fl_ <any prefix>

  • Admin Username: your_admin <your username>

  • Admin Email: [email protected] <your email>

  • Admin Password: yourPassword <your password>

  • Confirm Password: yourPassword <your password>

Summary

The advantages are hard to claim, because aside from the basic functionality, other features require additional plugins, which splits the whole system and then reassembles it. Different technical standards mean that reassembly leads to continuous problems, fixing bugs takes too much time, and the poor experience naturally leads to abandonment. I wonder why this forum has declined? While blindly pursuing a multitude of options, there is no unified technical standard or guideline, and trying to make program logic both compatible and diverse comes at a cost.
